Moving safely around others

Sharing the space

When lots of children move in one space, everyone must look out for each other. This is called spatial awareness. It means you know who is near you. It means you know what is around you too. Awareness helps you move without crashing into anyone. This keeps a busy space safe for all.

Looking ahead

Look ahead as you move. Do not just look down at your feet. Looking ahead helps you see other children early. Then you can turn in time. You will not bump into them if you look ahead. Plan your path, like a driver watching the road ahead.

Empty now is not empty later

A gap looks empty right now. But someone else might run into that gap too, just a bit later. Leave space around you at all times. Then you have time to turn if someone runs your way. A good gap can close fast. Space keeps everyone safe, even in a busy room.

Stopping under control

When a grown-up says stop, stop at once. Keep your feet still. Keep your body steady. Practise fast stops often. Your body will learn to do it fast. Spread out in a big space. Do not crowd one small spot near a friend. Everyone needs room to move and play.
